Is Your Time Managing You?
How do you manage your time when you only have 24 hours a day? I don't have a magical answer -sorry. Based on my recent Time Mastery Training, here are some tips that came out of my audience after hearing my presentation.
- Write down your goals, both personal and work - create a balance from the very beginning.
- Plan tomorrow before you end today and know your priorities and schedule those first.
- Keep the 80/20 rule in mind, that 80% of your revenues come from 20% of your activities.
- Form habits - 1 day at a time and know that all habits take 21 days to form.
- Plan weekly - a brief review of what's coming up will help you recognize gaps in your productivity or where you may run into over scheduling.
- Set blocks of time for projects, even if the project is "check email", or "read business trade journals".
- Use a tickler system to eliminate procrastination. By making a decision when you look at each piece of paper, email, or phone message, you keep the flow moving.
If you can commit to take one of these ideas and incorporate it into your life, I know you can get better control of your time. As I chant in my keynote speech, "Things don't clutter, we clutter! And when we understand why, we can make simple changes to improve the quality of our life at work and at home."
