July 2007
I just returned from a WBENC conference in Los Angeles. Wow! I loved the fast pace.... (note I was not driving.) It was a business to business trade fair for companies that do business with woman owned businesses. I attended quite a few learning workshops as well as met a lot of wonderful other woman owned businesses and prospective new companies to work with! My newsletter this month is to share with you two things I learned. One, are you focused on how you are "categorizing" your life and business. Multitasking is helping us to be disorganized, having a plan always creates the clarity to get things done quickly. Second, qualified talent is critical. I've been helping clients here on maximizing on how productive people can be when they have benchmarks, know their strengths and weaknesses. It's exciting for me to know that I am contributing to all of you something that the Fortune 100 are struggling with as well. Thanks for the continued opportunity
Best regards, Anne
Process - Incoming Items: The Power of Organizing
Think about how categorizing helps us every day. What if you went to a department store or a grocery store and things were not categorized? What if, instead of grouping like things together, the store manager decided to randomly display the available items? If you needed a particular item, you would have to guess where it might be. If you needed two of the same item, you might find one in the front corner of the store and another mixed up with other unrelated items in the back corner of the store. Life, and shopping, would become a frustrating scavenger hunt. It is just too confusing to display things in a random manner without categorizing them in some way. Think about what it would be like if bookstores, dictionaries or catalogues did not use some sort of categorizing systems.

People - Expect the best.
A stumbling block to establishing customers for life is turning the tables. Many businesses wait for customers to "prove" their worth before they start to take steps to cement the relationship.
Instead, approach everyone as a potential lifer: "Don't adopt the mindset that a customer must 'earn' their way into your good graces as a business," says Erin Duckhorn of Crucial Technology, an online memory upgrade provider. "Instead, we assume from the very beginning that this new customer is going to be a long-term loyal customer and treat them as such."
By treating your customers respectfully from the start and expecting that they will pay on time - rather than prodding them about payment deadlines before it ever becomes an issue - can engender long-term customer loyalty, Duckhorn says.
