What people are Saying...

After working with Strategize & Organize, I felt like I was back in control.

Tresa M. Banker

March 2007

As you probably know by now, in 2005 Congress passed a measure to begin daylight-savings time three weeks early this year -- Sunday March 11, to be exact.
As the initial euphoria of "Yippeee - our days are getting longer again" wears off , it may register in your mind that this change could impact your electronic life. What exactly will be affected and is there anything you need to do in preparation?

We are providing a few different strategies in this issue and give you keys to address these concerns. With these tips, we can guide you how to check in with yourself on what needs to be addressed, use the right keys (changes appropriate for you), and be able to get yourself organized, and check out of your office on time and enjoy the extra daylight.

Best regards, Anne

Computer Operating Systems: Microsoft has already released an update to Windows operating systems. This update may have been applied to your computer automatically, so you might want to verify. If you have an older operating system, though, you'll have to change the computer's clock on your own, and you may have to un-change it when it thinks the clock is supposed to spring forward on April 1.

ACT! Software Users: To prevent items on your ACT! calendar from appearing at incorrect times, we strongly encourage all of our clients to review information about the ACT! daylight savings time update, and install it when appropriate. To learn more about this update, and download the necessary files, please visit: the ACT! website. This update is applicable to ACT! versions: 2005 (7.0), 2006 (8.0) and 2007 (9.0). Earlier versions of ACT! are no longer supported by Sage Software, and we are not certain how they may be affected by the daylight savings time change. If you are using an earlier version of ACT!, please monitor your calendars closely between March 11 and April 1.

Microsoft Outlook: Even Microsoft says to get on the phone and check your appointments during the three weeks in March when we were supposed to be on standard time, just in case.

Cell Phones: Your cell phone typically receives time signals from your service provider, and the major ones have been updating their systems to avoid trouble. However, consultants advise that you check your bill when it comes at the end of the month, to make sure that the peak times for higher or lower phone rates corresponded to the time change.

Handhelds: If you have a BlackBerry, a Palm or the like, many models will need an update. Whether you have your device from our employer or not, you will want to check with your IT professional or go to the your handheld's web site for instructions.

International Calls and Meetings: Keep in mind that the United States and Canada are switching their clocks, but 180-odd other countries are not. If you planned an overseas call for a specific time, you may want to double check your appointments.

Video Recorders: Do you have a TiVo? Or, for that matter, an old but reliable VHS recorder? Newer models may have been sent software updates online, in any case check with your service provider for details.

Online Trading and Banking: If you're making any time-sensitive transactions, double-check. Some systems could be an hour off.
